Halloween in Geneva

We've officially celebrated our first Halloween away from the US.  We thought only people in the US got dressed up and did the whole pumpkin and candy thing, but we were wrong.  I've learned recently that people in the UK also love Halloween.  The Swiss?  Nope.  

Halloween costumes got left behind in the move for a few reasons:

1.  We weren't expecting to make friends that enjoyed Halloween

2.  Dressing up in Switzerland and publicly making fools of ourselves?  Sounds forbidden.

3.  We have way too many costumes at home and didn't know if we'd have room to store them here.

Last night, we went to L&G's for a Halloween extravaganza.  There were hilarious costumes, great food, and our favorite... English speaking friends!!!  

Costume decisions were significantly harder this year.  We wanted to make sure that people would 'get it' and some ideas proved to be too 'American.'  Here are some of my ideas that were shot down...

You can see how these might not be understood by anyone who isn't from the US.  We decided to still go with two 'American' costumes and take our chances....

We attempted to go to the Glocals party, but the line was insane.  So we went to another local bar and hung out for a bit.  We've noticed that people over here seem to embrace the creepy/scary/gross costumes more.  We're not huge fans of the fake blood or body part props.  We'll stick to our fun and ridiculous get-ups.

Singapore in Geneva

Our camera (or SD card) has been on the fritz the past couple of weeks.  Sometimes it saves pictures, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it will save pictures until you go to upload them... and poof!  They're gone.   We've lost several great pictures over the past couple of weeks, but at least we weren't on some exotic vacation.  Needless to say, this post has some stolen pictures (from S over at Schwingen in Switzerland)

A couple weekends ago, our new friends J&J invited us over for a Singaporean feast.  A couple of Singapore "facts":

     

Fact #1:  Singapore is apparently awesome.  We want to go. 

Fact #2:  63 islands, 5 million people, became independent in 1965 (from being a British naval base), just south of Malaysia, and is considered one of the least corrupt countries in the world.

Fact #3:  The. food. is. so. good.  (definitely a fact)

I still have cravings for it.  It was absolutely delicious!  We had Gado-Gado, Chicken Satay with Ketupat, Curry Chicken, Prata & Kaya puffs, and wine.  Lots and lots of wine.  There was a spicy-peanut sauce (sorry I don't remember the name) that I could probably drink by itself.  Adam and I put it on everything.

Thonon-les-Bains, France

Recently we made it up to Thonon-les-Bains, France.  It was the same day we went to Yvoire.  Thonon is a slightly larger and less charming town than Yvoire, but it had an amazing view of Lake Geneva.

Great time in Thonon.  Probably won't go back, but it was a pretty neat town.
