Boating on Lake Geneva

This past Saturday we rented a boat. I don't know if words are necessary.  Picture blog time...

Click to go to boat rental site.
Boat rental:  50chf for 1 hour.  Completely worth it.  It was so much fun.  :)

This shouldn't be allowed.

Time to switch drivers.  He was a little reckless.

The UN

We found life jackets.

Now for some ginormous Swiss houses on the lake.  A lot (just the land!) is roughly 5 million.

Storm brewing.  We needed a bigger motor to get back quickly.

Perle du Lac (where we went to see Top Gun in the park)

You can actually rent a sailboat too.  Without a license (scary).  This is our next plan for when it's actually sunny and we can stay out longer.
...or we might get this one.  It has a table and shade.  Party boat.
Au revoir!

Happy 4th!

Update 7/5/11:  Our life group from our church in Phoenix sent us a care package.  They are amazing and we already have plans for the obnoxious American decor.  Thanks everyone!  We love and miss you!  See the crew below, minus Shaina :(
Flags, beads, sunglasses, stir sticks, lantern, banners, bubble tape, quaker oat bars, an apple pie, steak seasoning, Bugles, and Smarties.  How much more American can you get?  A Mountain Dew would have been just over the top.

This is officially our first 4th of July... out of the US.  ;(  That didn't keep us from celebrating this weekend though.  Our celebration started when we saw this in our mailbox.

It's interesting to see what characterizes America in this ad:  ketchup, mustard, brownie cookies, angel food cake, maple syrup & pancake mix, Hawiian pizza, etc.  It was still exciting.  Haha!

The weather has been amazing recently and we did our best to get in some 'water sports' and grilling.  'Water sports' involved laying out by the river on Saturday, getting an extreme sunburn, seeing some interesting bathing suit choices, Adam jumping off a bridge (pictures to come), and me only being able to get into the water up to my waist (water is about 65 degrees).  The Rhone river originally comes from a glacier in the Alps, winds it's way to Lake Geneva, then exits and goes through France to the Mediterranean.  So, it's freezing!

Perfect form... of a corpse.

Yesterday, we went to the lake to have a 'canadienne buffet' (what the French call a potluck).  We met five other American friends and hung out, drank wine, 'grilled out', ate a variety of Swiss cheeses and meats, and enjoyed the sunset.  It was a great time!  We were able to make plans for a 'Mexican Canadienne Buffet'  for next weekend.  Sounds crazy huh?

Here's evidence of our attempts.... no fireworks or boats though.  :(

Check out this next picture.  Lindsi and I had to go to the restroom, so this is what we found.  We called it the 'squatty potty.'  It's the equivalent to squatting in the woods... without the woods.  We did appreciate that they had raised places for your feet.  I guess whoever designed this wanted to prevent as much splash as possible.  Lots of fun.  Hope everyone has a nice 4th!  Au revoir from Switzerland!
