The need for speed. And popcorn.

Last night we went to La Perle du Lac here in Geneva because they have something very special there.  Free movies.  All Summer.  Outdoors.  Most are in French, but at least once a week they play something in 'version originale'... English.  Last night was Top Gun.  I'm game for any of Tom Cruise's 'pre-weirdo phase' works.

I brought my aviators, but we were shown up by some people dressed as fighter pilots, captains, and one guy even entertained the crowd as an air traffic controller (ping pong paddles for the light-wavy-things).  It was a little cooler and on the verge of raining all afternoon, otherwise we probably would have gotten a sweaty volleyball game going prior to showtime.

We had a fun wine/cheese picnic, enjoyed some American-themed music (like Surfin USA, Born in the USA, etc.), and people-watched.  Prior to the movie we were entertained by some spoofs made by people in Geneva.  Here's one:

It was so much more fun than a regular movie theater because even if people were talking and being obnoxious, we weren't really bothered.  However, Danielle did have some intruders.  The personal space thing is very different in some cultures (we notice it a lot here) and last night we had an incident.  We had gotten there early, staked our territory with blankets (and our bodies), and then a small group came and wedged themselves in between us and another group... acting like they didn't see our 7-strong crew.  We wound up having to kick them off of Danielle's lap with ripping the blankets from under them.  The stank-eye was also used.   Next time we will bring a sign that says 'You are not welcome to sit on us.  We got here early.  Sit in the back.'

The movie was so much fun!  Even though we've seen Top Gun no less than eighty times, it was my favorite viewing yet.  The special parts, like when Val Kilmer makes his first appearance, the volleyball scene, first kiss, etc. were much more enjoyable.  We participated in whistling, "woooo!"s, "ow-ow!"s, and many "yeeeeaaaahhhhh"s.

Adam also told us that he has always wanted to be a fighter pilot.  He thinks it's the ultimate 'bad-a$$' job, but his lack of 20/20 vision has kept him from that dream.  He took the accounting route instead.  Still has the same level of 'sexyness' in my book.

the French subtitles help us learn the language... better than studying books any day

We also sang New York New York... sorry for the poor video.

We decided to go to Lady Godiva on the way home.  Great night with great friends!  We will be frequenting the free movies often.
